Are AI Smart Glasses the new Wearable Tech Wave?

Has a video of someone wearing smart glasses come across your feed?

In my Future of Marketing course this week, I explored how emerging innovations and technologies, particularly in wearable tech, are changing the way marketers will connect with consumers in the near future.

Wearable tech is having its moment, from Ray-Ban Meta glasses to Oura rings to Apple Watches, but brands are moving from developing devices that only interact with the individual user to using AI to problem-solve real-world issues.

Most recently, Google and Samsung are planning to release their own smart glasses later this year, and Ray-Ban Metas are getting the option to have prescription lenses.

Along with improved functionality of these devices, tech companies are working to shift devices’ perceptions to must-have accessories by collaborating with eyewear brands like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. This blend of technology and fashion is reshaping how we interact with our devices, making them an extension of our personal style as individuals.

How will this affect how we market to consumers, though?

I believe that over the next five years, we will see the integration of AI-powered AR smartglasses into consumers’ daily lives, and that marketers will have a new medium to reach consumers through. One that can directly shape how the average user chooses where to travel, what to eat, and where to shop, among other things.

Smart glasses are bringing the future to consumers by positioning themselves at the intersection of fashion, tech, and the everyday, and they have the potential to completely shift the way we interact with the real world and each other.
